Starting your own trucking business is certainly an attainable goal, especially considering that the national economy is on the rebound and commercial trade is back on the rise. Once you’ve gotten the necessary loans to offset startup costs – whatever it takes to get a fleet of trucks, administrative materials, reliable labor and fuel – you’ll need to file some paperwork.

Companies that haul cargo along interstate highways must first register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. They must be assigned a U.S. Department of Transportation number, and those running hazardous materials will require a special permit to do so. You might need to cut through some red tape in order to get your trucking authority, but it’s all downhill from there.
